RDA Hunter’s MedTeCCH initiative was established in 2020 in partnership with the Hunter office of Ai Group. Now, with around 60 companies and organisations and over 120 people participating, the industry cluster represents the Hunter Central Coast’s MedTech & Pharmaceuticals sector and is managing a range activities that are contributing to sector and regional growth.
MedTeCCH is an industry-led network of Central Coast Hunter (CCH)-based MedTech and Pharma companies, national industry associations, sector specialists, and education & research organisations. It was established by RDA Hunter to identify and capture opportunities to grow and diversify the region’s MTP sector. MedTeCCH is building on the Hunter’s reputation for medical excellence at both clinical and research levels, its advanced manufacturing capability, and is leveraging the region’s traditional capabilities to expand knowledge-led industries and jobs.
MedTeCCH is:
- The local voice and champion for the Hunter Central Coast MTP sector
- Building direct links to end-users and investors, including local and global health systems, with support for infrastructure, skills translation and R&D acceleration
- Leading the growth and development of a sustainable, commercially successful MTP ecosystem to create and capitalise on research and innovation opportunities
MEDTECCH ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE
- Includes more than 60 companies and organisations (120+ people) across industry, research, government and education plus affiliates & supporters
- Developed and conducted a Capability Audit of the region’s known MTP sector
- Researched and produced a Regional Capability Statement – MTP: A Growth Sector for the Hunter Central Coast. Online at https://www.medtecch.org.au/capability/
- Developed working partnerships with Australian Industry Growth Centres (AMGC and MTP Connect), Australian and NSW Ministers and relevant government departments to raise the profile of MedTeCCH and the Hunter Central Coast region
- Facilitated industry partnerships with potential to lead to regional manufacturing opportunities
- Contributed input and advice to Health projects of state importance
- Formed a partnership with University of Newcastle to develop an industry relevant, contextualised short course to upskill the MTP workforce in quality management systems and regulatory affairs
- Hosted a series of knowledge exchange networking events
