Infrastructure

One of the Hunter Region’s greatest assets is its geographic location.

Its coal rich resources are supported by a world-class port, an airport and freight ready rail line that links the eastern states of Australia. It is less than 200 kilometres from Sydney and is the gateway to the Mid North Coast, New England and North West region’s of NSW.

It is home to almost one million people who have good access to quality education and health facilities and are employed in a diverse business sector.

Like most regions in Australia, the Hunter believes that it requires better infrastructure to meet its aspiration of become a progressive region of the future. Some of these include:

  • completing regional road and transport networks
  • water security for future industry development (including agriculture and mining)
  • improved freight corridors – road and rail
  • improved broadband communication
  • development of port related industry
  • airport development to cater for increasing demand and related industry employment zones

RDA Hunter will work across all sectors and representative groups to identify infrastructure needs for effectively connecting communities in the Hunter and surrounding regions for the next 20 years.
